Preface: I've lost an estimated 250 lbs of bodyfat and gained roughly 30 lbs of muscle, not by following a given diet, but by exhaustive curiosity of human biology and crafting my own diet/exercise plan based on what I've learned. As many of us here can relate to, I've become my own personal trainer- and I've devoted my life to fitness.
There are some issues that can be greatly helped by a second pair of highly knowledgeable eyes regarding body or muscle imbalances, underdeveloped vs overdeveloped muscles, loose skin impeding exercises, and, potentially the most detrimental, unshakable lifestyle habits such as binge eating and overtraining.
Still, I'm very hesitant to sign up for a personal trainer. I've heard lots of "horror" stories about personal trainers who have more opinions than facts, and I have friends who received injuries by following form advice from personal trainers at their gym. These anecdotes have contributed to my prejudice that the common personal trainer may not have a worthwhile level of professionalism. Combining this with the knowledge that my body represents an extremely marginal type of person (former morbid obesity), makes me wonder if there is still reasonable value in a personal trainer, and if there is more value (in my case) in subscribing to a therapist instead.
I would be thrilled to be a client of some personal trainers such as Jeff Nippard. I don't know if personal trainers like Jeff represent the norm, or are exceptional outliers. I'd like to hear your opinion on your experiences with personal trainers and the benefits you've had with their expertise.
